James F. Harrell

Prior to the start of TKCI, Mr. Harrell served as the Managing Director of Finance and Investments for Beacon Partners (“Beacon”) for the past 10 years and co-founded Beacon’s equity investment affiliate, Oaklane Capital, in 2007. At Beacon, Mr. Harrell was the functional “CFO” responsible for providing leadership and oversight to the company’s finance, investment, risk management, tax, and accounting activities. Prior to that, he was a co-founder and Chief Investment Officer of Side Street Capital Real Estate, LLC (“Side Street”), a Charlotte-based real estate private equity company. Mr. Harrell managed all areas of Side Street’s operations and was responsible for the underwriting, due diligence and ongoing analysis of all investments within the Side Street portfolio.

Before joining Side Street, Mr. Harrell had a 20-year career with Wachovia Bank. At Wachovia, Mr. Harrell served in various debt structuring, risk management, and capital markets positions providing coverage to private and public real estate operators across the southeastern markets of North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, and Virginia. In a capital markets capacity, he worked on product development for various financings including credit-tenant-lease (CTL), synthetic lease, sale-leaseback and securitized mortgage structures. Prior to joining the Wachovia real estate platform, Mr. Harrell worked in Wachovia’s National Corporate Banking Division in a direct lending capacity for private and public operating companies on the West Coast.

Mr. Harrell graduated with dual business degrees from the Kenan-Flagler Business School of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Masters in Business Administration.

Mr. Harrell currently serves on the Board of Visitors for the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center in Chapel Hill, NC and the board for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Foundation. Throughout his career he has served on various other local boards and committees.
