The Charlotte Business Journal reported on Oct. 26, that TKC's office development for CompuCom Systems Inc.’s headquarters in Fort Mill could set a new standard when it comes to technology employed in commercial real estate. The IT-managed services company, a subsidiary of Office Depot, moved into its 150,000-square-foot building at Bailes Ridge Business Park this spring.

The building is one of the first in the US to be exclusively powered by Power-over-Ethernet technology, a digital electrical system. Mobile phones provide employees access, Cisco Spark systems monitor usage and give feedback for efficiencies, and building managers can access data via the cloud making the building entirely tech driven.

“(CompuCom) is a little bit on the front lines on this but as it becomes a more proven technology and they can see the advantages of it, it will become the gold standard,” said Brendan Pierce, office development partner at The Keith Corp., which developed the building in a joint venture with MPV Properties. “We think this is the future of office development.”

CompuCom believes that the new HQ will cost an estimated 16% less per square foot in operations compared to its original HQ in Texas.

CompuCom’s headquarters also houses a health clinic, gym, digital cafe, firepit and two-story video wall.
