Sherwin-Williams, the renowned paint and coatings company, is making headlines with its $324 million expansion project in Statesville, NC — a transformative investment set to create more than 180 jobs and strengthen the region’s industrial footprint.
Earlier this year, the company unveiled plans to expand its existing 200,000-square-foot manufacturing facility and construct a new, state-of-the-art 800,000-square-foot distribution center within Larkin Regional Commerce Park. Developed by The Keith Corporation, this project will not only double Sherwin-Williams’ manufacturing capacity but also enhance its operational efficiency and global reach.
According to Kathleen Szczesniak, Senior Vice President for Sherwin-Williams, the Statesville facility will become the company’s largest manufacturing location worldwide. The expansion includes a 36,000-square-foot addition to the existing plant and will be completed by July 31, 2024.
Backed by more than $30 million in combined state, county, and local incentives — including $16 million in state grants — the project demonstrates the region’s strong commitment to business growth and job creation.
The expansion also marks a pivotal milestone for the long-anticipated Larkin Regional Commerce Park, a 1,000-acre site envisioned for industrial development for more than a decade. Sherwin-Williams’ investment served as the catalyst to officially activate the park, paving the way for future industrial projects in the area.
Statesville city leaders celebrated the groundbreaking ceremony with enthusiasm, calling it a major win for local economic development. Mayor Costi Kutteh described it as “another great day for Statesville,” adding that the project builds on recent industrial successes, including Bobcat Co.’s $70 million expansion and several new speculative developments from regional developers.
Sherwin-Williams’ expansion represents a powerful example of strategic growth — blending innovation, investment, and community impact — and underscores Statesville’s continued rise as a key industrial hub in North Carolina.
